Students will explore non-traditional self portraits in this class. We’ll be focusing on ways portraits can tell us who we are rather than simply what we look like. Our 3 projects will include a colorful chalk pastel portrait, a wire and plaster sculpture, and an artist book with a chosen theme that is personally meaningful to each artist. Friday’s class will be spent putting final touches on any projects that need it and sharing our work with one another!

Class is outdoors. Capped at 8.

Price is $45/day plus $10 materials fee. *Use code: FAMILY123 at checkout for sibling discount.

*There is one sliding scale spot reserved for each session. If cost is prohibitive please email niki@thestudiospace.org

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & CLASS MODEL: My teaching philosophy is grounded in exploration. Small class sizes allow for individual, one-on-one instruction and attention as well as differentiation of materials and approach for varying ages and abilities if needed. Students will complete 3-4 in-depth projects, depending on the session, with the last day devoted to putting final touches on any work that needs it and setting up for our art show where students can have their work honored in a gallery setting to share with loved ones. Open-studio time after collaborative warm ups, discussion, and demonstrations means students work at their own pace and will each create their own, personally meaningful, unique works of art.
