PAINT IT, CHOP IT, MAKE IT:

An 8 Week, Personalized, Holistic Art Program to Promote Resilience, Adaptability, Determination & Confidence in Children:

Online & In-Person

Niki Bramante, M.A.T. Art Education

Hi, I’m Niki! After years of teaching Art in the schools I’ve regularly observed the pride, affirmation and pure joy children take away from a truly creative experience. I’ve worked with students from a range of learning differences - some with social and emotional struggles - and have identified specific elements of the creative process that strengthen the ability to cope with change, help us accept what we can not control, encourage intuition, and build confidence. This 8 week program focuses on those elements while encouraging participants to become lost in the process of creating. Each project within the program involves creating a 2D work of art, taking it apart, and putting it back together to create something new. This program is offered online and in-person.

How Does it Work?

I work with families to book sessions that fit with your schedule. We meet once a week for 1 hour for 8 weeks. I hold lessons in-person or online. I work with single students, siblings, or small groups of friends (up to 4). Parents are encouraged to participate…nothing brings people together like making art!

Who is it For?

Any children or teens ages 7-18! It may be especially beneficial to those going through a life change, struggling academically, or suffering from low self-esteem.

Program Pillars & Benefits:

1. NON-REPRESENTATIONAL: Students will create non-representational designs and patterns. When artwork is not meant to look like something else this takes the “fear” out and helps break down the notion that, “I’m not good at art.” This approachable technique simplifies mark-making using only a few basic elements of art and principles of design.

2. ITERATIONS: Making multiples allows the creator to be playful, experimental, and intuitive because they don’t feel overly attached to any individual work as their '“final” or “masterpiece”.

3. LOSS OF CONTROL: Using methods and tools which force a certain loss of control frees us of unrealistic expectations and allows us to forgive ourselves ahead of time if something isn’t “perfect”.

4. DECONSTRUCTING: The maker must say goodbye to something as it is by tearing or cutting their work. This is a powerful way to practice coping with change.

5. RECONSTRUCTING: Putting work back together as a new whole helps us with the realization that something can be taken apart, changed, or even destroyed in order to create something completely new and different….beautiful in its own right.
